سورة الأنبياء، الآية ٤٤Surah Al-Anbya, ayah 44 (21:44)
بَلۡ مَتَّعۡنَا هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ وَءَابَآءَهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ طَالَ عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلۡعُمُرُ أَفَلَا يَرَوۡنَ أَنَّا نَأۡتِى ٱلۡأَرۡضَ نَنقُصُهَا مِنۡ أَطۡرَافِهَآ أَفَهُمُ ٱلۡغَٰلِبُونَ ٤٤
The meaning in English
Nay, We gave the luxuries of this life to these men and their fathers until the period grew long for them. See they not that We gradually reduce the land (in their control) from its outlying borders? Is it then they who will overcome?

التفسير الميسر
لقد اغترَّ الكفار وآباؤهم بالإمهال لِمَا رأوه من الأموال والبنين وطول الأعمار، فأقاموا على كفرهم لا يَبْرحونه، وظنوا أنهم لا يُعذَّبون وقد غَفَلوا عن سُنَّة ماضية، فالله ينقص الأرض من جوانبها بما ينزله بالمشركين مِن بأس في كل ناحية ومِن هزيمة، أيكون بوسع كفار "مكة" الخروج عن قدرة الله، أو الامتناع من الموت؟
