سورة غافر، الآية ٢٢Surah Ghafir, ayah 22 (40:22)
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمۡ كَانَت تَّأۡتِيهِمۡ رُسُلُهُم بِٱلۡبَيِّنَٰتِ فَكَفَرُواْ فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ إِنَّهُۥ قَوِىٌّ شَدِيدُ ٱلۡعِقَابِ ٢٢
The meaning in English
That was because there came to them their Messengers with clear evidence (proofs and signs) but they disbelieved (in them). So Allâh seized them (with punishment). Verily He is All-Strong, Severe in punishment.

التفسير الميسر
ذلك العذاب الذي حلَّ بالمكذبين السابقين، كان بسبب موقفهم من رسل الله الذين جاؤوا بالدلائل القاطعة على صدق دعواهم، فكفروا بهم، وكذَّبوهم، فأخذهم الله بعقابه، إنه سبحانه قوي لا يغلبه أحد، شديد العقاب لمن كفر به وعصاه
